The latest Rasmussen Reports polling data shows President George W. Bush leading Senator John Kerry in Iowa 48% to 46%. That's well within the survey's margin of sampling error.

Kerry was ahead in Iowa for most of the year until the Republican National Convention. Since then, weekly updates provided to Premium Members have generally shown Bush ahead by 1-3 percentage points.

During Election 2000, Al Gore won a narrow 49% to 48% victory in Iowa. This latest survey data keeps Iowa in the "Toss-up" category for our Electoral College projections.

Along with Minnesota and Wisconsin, Iowa is one of a few states that the Bush campaign hopes to convert from the Democratic column in 2000 to the GOP column in this year's competition.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of Iowa voters have a favorable opinion of President Bush while 51% say the same about Senator Kerry. Those figures are similar to the national numbers for the two candidates at this time.

In Iowa, 52% of all voters Approve of the way President Bush is performing his job. That's down a point from our last release and still below his national Job Approval rating.

Early in the year, President Bush's Approval Ratings remained extremely low in Iowa as Democratic Presidential hopefuls camped in the state and campaigned aggressively for the first competition in the 2004 campaign season.
