American Idol Fans Say Castro Should Be the Next to Go

With just five contestants remaining, American Idol fans already have their picks on who should be eliminated and who will win the competition. Overall, about a quarter (23%) of fans say that dreadlocked crooner Jason Castro should be the next contestant to go. Sixteen (16%) believe singer-songwriter Syesha Mercado should head home, while 15% say Brooke White should be next to get the boot. White forgot the words to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ballad, “You Must Love Me”, in last week’s performance. After she already started the song, she stopped the band and restarted the song from the beginning. Paula Abdul, who is rated incredibly favorably by Idol fans, criticized her performance saying “[she] must never start and stop.” American Idol fans are defined as adults who watch the show occassionally, almost every week or every week. Regardless of who they think should go, however, fans are split on who they think will be eliminated. Twenty-one percent (21%) say Mercado will be leaving tomorrow night. Twenty percent (20%) think Castro will leave next. And another (20%) think White will head home. When it comes to winning the competition, 29% believe David Cook should be crowned the champion. Twenty-three percent (23%) believe David Archuleta, winner of the Junior Singers Competition on Star Search in 2002, should win season seven’s title. Archuleta and Cook are the only current contestants who have not been in the bottom three this season. Thirty percent (30%) believe Archulta will go home the winner, while 27% say the same about Cook. See survey questions and toplines. Crosstabs available for Premium Members only.
