Most Still Would Support A Gay President, Less Sure About Others
Pete Buttigieg, the first openly gay major presidential candidate, is one of the early leaders in the race for this year’s Democratic nomination. Most voters say they have no problem with electing a gay president but remain less sure that others they know agree.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 60% of Likely U.S. Voters would be willing personally to vote for an openly gay president. Twenty-seven percent (27%) would not, while 13% are undecided. These findings have changed very little since last April. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted February 16-17, 2020 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
