Clinton Isn’t Helped by Being First Major Party Woman Nominee

Hillary Clinton is the first woman presidential nominee of a major U.S. political party, but most voters, including the vast majority of women, insist that won’t make a difference when they cast their vote.

Only 14% of Likely U.S. Voters say they are more likely to vote for Clinton because she is the first woman to be a major party presidential nominee, and just as many (15%) say they are less likely to vote for her for the same reason.  A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 70% of voters say Clinton’s historic nomination will have no impact on their vote. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on October 26-27, 2016 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
