Voters Still Rate Obama Poorly on Economic, National Security Matters

President Obama's overall job approval ratings may have improved since Election Day, but voter opinions of his handling of the economy and national security have not. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 40% of Likely U.S. Voters think the president is doing a good or excellent job dealing with economic matters, while 42% rate his performance in this area as poor. Voters Think Obama Getting Tougher With His Opponents

While voters are more confident in the economy and the direction of the country, attitudes about the quality of President Obama's leadership remain basically unchanged. Voters do recognize, though, that the president is getting more confrontational with his political opponents.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 43% of Likely U.S. Voters think the president is doing a good or excellent job. This is up five points from the three-year low found in November, but his positives have generally run in the mid-40s in monthly surveys since he took office. President Gets No Bounce from Improving Economy

A number of economic indicators suggest the economy is improving, but voters aren't giving President Obama any additional credit for that improvement.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 39% of Likely U.S. Voters give the president good or excellent ratings for his handling of economic issues, little changed in regular surveys since November 2010. 36% Give Obama Positive Marks for His Immigration Efforts

Half of U.S. voters oppose President Obama’s new plan to protect up to five million illegal immigrants from deportation, and nearly the same number give him poor marks for his handling of immigration issues. But positive ratings for the president on immigration are the highest they’ve been since January.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 36% now give the president good or excellent ratings for his handling of issues related to immigration. That’s up from 31% last month and ties the highest positive rating of the year reached in late January Forty-eight percent (48%) still say the president is doing a poor job in this area, in line with findings over the past several months. 38% Rate Obama’s Leadership Positively

For the second time this year, the number of voters who rate President Obama’s leadership positively has reached a three-year low.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the president is doing a good or excellent job. This ties the low first reached in August. Obama's positives have generally run in the mid-40s in regular surveys since he took office. Obama Still Stumbles on Fairness, Deficit Issues

President Obama began the year with a State of the Union address that focused on income inequality, but as the year draws to a close, voters still give the president mediocre marks for the job he's doing in the area of economic fairness.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 38% of Likely U.S. Voters voters think the president is doing a good or excellent job handling issues related to economic fairness. The Republican takeover of the Senate is seen by many as a repudiation of President Obama. There’s no doubt that voters don’t approve of much of what they see out of the White House these days.

Just 36% of Likely U.S. Voters now give the president good or excellent marks for his handling of both the economy and of national security, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Forty-three percent (43%) say he’s doing a poor job when it comes to the economy, and slightly more (45%) rate his handling of national security issues as poor.(To see survey question wording, click here.)

Immigration? Obama’s Negatives Jump

Just over half of voters now give President Obama poor marks for his handling of immigration issues, the highest level of criticism we’ve found to date.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that only 27% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the president is doing a good or excellent job when it comes to immigration. That’s down five points from 32% in June and his lowest positives in monthly surveying since January of last year. Fifty-one percent (51%) rate Obama’s performance on immigration issues as poor, a seven-point jump from 44% in the previous survey and a new high. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

38% Rate Obama Positively on National Security

Despite the United States' growing involvement in headline-grabbing areas like Gaza and Ukraine, voters continue to give mediocre reviews to President Obama's handling of national security issues.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the president is doing a good or excellent job in the area of national security, but slightly more (41%) still rate his performance as poor. That's generally in line with findings for the past year. 47% Rate Obama's Handling of Health Care As Poor

Even as Obamacare's troubled rollout process is surrounded by new allegations of fraud, nearly half of voters view President Obama's handling of health care issues negatively.  

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters give the president good or excellent marks for his dealings with health care. But 47% rate Obama’s handling of health care issues as poor. 51% Give Obama Poor Marks on Government Spending

Criticism of President Obama's handling of government spending is at its highest level in a year-and-a-half.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone surveys find that 33% of Likely U.S. Voters give the president good or excellent marks in the area of government spending. That's down two points from June and his lowest positives in this area since last September. But just over half (51%) now rate the president's performance as poor when it comes to spending, the highest negative since regular surveying began in January of last year. 43% View Attorney General Eric Holder Unfavorably

Attorney General Eric Holder, who has tangled repeatedly with Republicans in Congress and was forced last week to cancel a public appearance in Oklahoma in the face of public protests, remains one of the best-known and least-liked members of President Obama's Cabinet.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 24% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable opinion of Holder, while 43% view him unfavorably. This includes seven percent (7%) who view the nation's top law enforcement officer Very Favorably and 29% who view him Very Unfavorably.

One-in-three voters (33%) don't know enough about Holder to voice any kind of opinion of him, but most Cabinet members are far more anonymous than that as far as the public is concerned. Holder is less well-known but just as unpopular as Secretary of State John Kerry and departing Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius among the president's Cabinet officers. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the president is doing a poor job. That’s up five points from 40% a month ago and the president’s worst showing in monthly surveying since November 2008. Nearly as many (41%) rate the president’s job performance as good or excellent, although that’s down from 44% in the previous survey. 44% View Secretary of State Kerry Favorably

Voters' views of Secretary of State John Kerry have changed little since he was nominated to the Cabinet post 15 months ago.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 44% of Likely U.S. Voters view Kerry at least somewhat favorably, while 46% share an unfavorable view of him. As tensions with Russia escalate, voters give President Obama his best marks in the national security area in several months.

That’s up eight points from a week ago and his highest positive ratings in this area since late October. 46% Rate Obama Poorly on Health Care, 41% Positively

Voters' ratings for President Obama's handling of health care issues have rebounded since the disastrous weeks following the rollout of Obamacare on October 1. Voters are now closely divided over the quality of the job he is doing in this area.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 41% of Likely U.S. Voters give the president good or excellent marks for his handling of issues related to health care. That's up 11 points from 30% in mid-November, the lowest finding in over a year of regular monthly surveying.
