Cindy Sheehan is marching to Washington demanding that Nancy Pelosi launch impeachment proceedings against President Bush. Today, the grieving mother who lost her son in Iraq and maintained an anti-War protest outside of President Bush's ranch, is viewed favorably by 22% of Americans. That's down from 31% in September 2005. Fifty percent (50%) now have an unfavorable view of Sheehan. That’s up from 39% a couple of years ago. The current figures include 8% with a Very Favorable opinion of Sheehan and 32% with a Very Unfavorable view. Democrats have mixed views of the anti-War activist. Thirty-four percent (34%) have a favorable opinion while 39% say the opposite. Among Republicans, the numbers are 9% favorable and 72% unfavorable. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 21% offer a positive assessment of Sheehan while 42% have a negative opinion. While views of Sheehan have declined over the past two years, support for the cause that brought her into the national spotlight has increased. Most Americans today want to see U.S. troops out of Iraq by early next year. There is less public support for Sheehan’s current crusade, but 39% of Americans believe that President Bush should be impeached and removed from office. President Bush’s Job Approval ratings, updated daily on Rasmussen Reports, remain near all-time lows. Sheehan has said she will run against Pelosi in 2008 if Pelosi doesn’t act on impeachment. In issuing that challenge, Sheehan said, "I know what Californians care about. They don't care about the ruling power elite." Pelosi is viewed favorably by 39% of American voters in the most recent Rasmussen Reports poll. In an e-mail to the Associated Press, a spokesperson for Pelosi said "She believes that the best way to support our troops in Iraq is to bring them home safely and soon," Democrats will continue to hold the Bush Administration accountable by having votes in July to change course in Iraq; to responsibly redeploy our troops; and to refocus our effort on protecting Americans from terrorism."
