Voters Say Money Too Big A Hurdle for Most to Run for Congress

Following the most expensive congressional race in history, voters agree money makes it impossible for most people to run for Congress, but they also still believe that money is not the most important factor in an election.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 20% of Likely U.S. Voters believe it is possible for anyone to run for Congress. Seventy-one percent (71%) say the amount of money necessary for a campaign makes it impossible for most people to run. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on June 20-21, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
