More Voters Expect To Be Unhappy With the New Congress

Already? The new Congress, with Republicans in control of the House, isn’t even seated yet, and voters are already expressing more likely disappointment than they did around Election Day.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% of Likely U.S. Voters – two-out-of-three – think it is at least somewhat likely that most voters will be disappointed with Republicans in Congress before the 2012 elections. This includes 37% who say it is Very Likely.

Only 25% believe most voters will not be disappointed in the congressional GOP when the next national elections roll around, but just five percent (5%) say it’s Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

At the beginning of November when a GOP takeover of the House on Election Day appeared inevitable, 59% of voters said it was likely most voters would be disappointed with Republicans in Congress by 2012, with 38% who felt it was Very Likely.

The only good news for Republicans is that even more voters predict unhappiness with congressional Democrats by 2012. Eighty-two percent (82%) think it is at least somewhat likely that most voters will be disappointed with Democrats in Congress before the 2012 elections, including 53% who believe it is Very Likely. Only 14% say that’s not very or not at all likely to be the case.
