California: Kerry 53% Bush 42%

Senator John F. Kerry with 53% of the state's vote and President George W. Bush with 42%. A week ago, Kerry was ahead 53% to 40%.

In Election 2000, Bush lost California to Al Gore by the same margin as the current poll--11 points.

The new survey results have no impact on our Electoral College totals since California was already in the Kerry column. With just one exception, Kerry has been over the 50% mark in every California survey we've released since April.

Rasmussen Reports Premium Members receive weekly updates on California polls along with supplemental information.

Premium Member Service also includes daily tracking for Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. We also provide updates for 15 other states on a weekly basis.

Just 36% of California voters believe the country is heading in the right direction while 60% believe we have gotten off on the wrong track. That's a more pessimistic assessment than the national average.

Forty-five percent (45%) of California voters Approve of the way President Bush is performing his job. That's up a point from our previous survey and below his national Job Approval rating.
