70% of Insured Rate Health Insurance Coverage As Good or Excellent

Seventy percent (70%) of Americans with health insurance rate their coverage as good or excellent. Twenty-three percent (23%) say their insurance coverage is fair, and six percent (6%) rate it as poor, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Overall, including those without insurance, 62% rate the health care they receive as good or excellent, while eight percent (8%) say it’s poor. For Americans with health insurance, satisfaction is a bit higher: 70% say their health care is good or excellent, while just four percent (4%) view it as poor. These findings are virtually unchanged from a survey in July of last year. However, one-out-of-four Americans (26%) say that health care costs have at some point caused them to miss credit card, rent or mortgage payments. That figure includes 21% of those with health insurance. (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls.) Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter. Only 56% of Americans who earn less than $20,000 per year have health insurance. Seventy-five percent (75%) of those who earn $20,000 to $40,000 annually are covered. Nearly all those in higher income brackets report having insurance. Older Americans give slightly higher marks to their health care than those who are younger. Wealthier Americans have a much higher opinion of the health care they receive than those who earn less. Seventy-three percent (73%) of Republicans say the health care they receive is good or excellent, a view shared by just 57% of Democrats and 55% of unaffiliateds. Twenty-three percent (23%) of Americans say they are at least somewhat likely to miss a credit card payment in the next six months. Americans are closely divided on whether it’s a good idea to establish a government health insurance company to compete with private health insurance companies. Forty-three percent (43%) of voters think the quality of health care in America will get worse if a government-run health insurance plan is created to compete with private plans.
But 63% of voters agree with President Obama that “we must make it a priority to give every single American quality affordable health care.” Please sign up for the Rasmussen Reports daily e-mail update (it’s free)… let us keep you up to date with the latest public opinion news.
