Just over half of U.S. voters continue to believe that the new health care law will increase the cost of care and believe the law will be bad for the country. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 58% favor repeal of the new national health care law while 36% are opposed. These figures include 46% who Strongly Favor repeal and 28% who are Strongly Opposed. A majority has favored repeal of the legislation in every single week since it became law. Support for repeal has ranged from a low of 52% to a high of 63%. There continues to be a huge divide on this issue between the Political Class and Mainstream Voters. Among the Mainstream, 65% favor repeal. Among the Political Class, 80% are opposed. Overall, 54% of Likely Voters say that the cost of health care will go up under the new law. Just 18% say the cost of health care will go down, while 21% say it will stay the same. (Want a free daily e-mail update ? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95%level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology. Consistent with findings since the bill first passed, most Republicans (86%) and 57% of voters not affiliated with either party favor repeal while a majority of Democrats (59%) oppose repeal. Fifty-one percent (51%) of all voters believe the health care plan will be bad for the country. Thirty-eight percent (38%) feel it will be good for the United States. These findings have shown little change since passage of the bill in late March. Just 25% believe the quality of health care will get better under the new reform plan. A solid plurality (49%) feel the quality will get worse, while 21% say it will stay the same. Again, these numbers have changed little since the law was approved by Congress and signed by the president. Fifty-six percent (56%) say the new health care plan will increase the deficit, a finding that has ranged from 56% to 63% since passage of the bill. Only 14% say the federal deficit will be reduced, and another 17% say the new bill will have no impact over the deficit. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure. With midterm elections less than three months away, nearly two-out-of-three U.S. voters (65%) remain at least somewhat angry at the current policies of the federal government, including 40% who are Very Angry. Incumbent members of Congress don’t exactly get a vote of confidence from their constituents in a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
