Poll: Plurality Favors Gates Confirmation

64% Expect New Iraq Policy

Forty-four percent (44%) of Americans say that Robert Gates should be confirmed as Secretary of Defense by the United States Senate. A Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of 1,000 adults found that 16% disagree while 40% are not sure at this time. An earlier survey found that 41% have a favorable opinion of the man nominated to replace Donald Rumsfeld. Americans are cautiously optimistic that a change in Iraq policy is coming. Twenty-two percent (22%) believe a policy change is very likely while another 42% say it is somewhat likely.
