Survey of 1216 California Likely Voters

October 12th, 2022

By Rasmussen Reports and Capitol Resource Institute

How would you rate the job Joe Biden has been doing as President… do you strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the job he’s been doing?

Generally speaking, on the issue of abortion, do you consider yourself pro-choice or pro-life?

The Supreme Court recently overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, so that each state can now determine its own laws regarding abortion. Do you approve or disapprove of the court overturning Roe v. Wade?

Because of California’s permissive stance on abortion, the overturning of Roe v. Wade has no legal effect on the number or type of abortions in California.  Does that make you change your mind about the overturning of Roe v. Wade?

Do you strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the use of taxpayer money to perform abortions?

Should abortion laws be determined by state governments or by the federal government?

Do you think abortions after a fetus has a developed nervous system and can feel pain should be legal under any circumstances, legal only under certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?

Do you strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the sale of fetal tissue like limbs and organs after an abortion?

Some states have limits on how late in a woman’s pregnancy an abortion can legally be performed. Should abortion be legal up to the first month of pregnancy, legal up to three months of a pregnancy, legal up to six months of a pregnancy, or legal at any time during a pregnancy before the moment of birth? Or should all abortions be illegal?

At what point in a pregnancy does a fetus have a right to life? At conception, at 3 months, at 6 months, or at birth?

In deciding how you vote in elections, how important is a candidate’s position on abortion?

Should a woman have a legal right to unrestricted abortion at any stage of pregnancy, including up until birth, for any reason?

How closely have you been following recent news about California’s Proposition 1?

Do you support or oppose California’s Proposition 1 which states:

The state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion…

California’s Proposition 1, if it passes in November, makes it likely that abortions all the way up to birth will continue with no restrictions in California.  Does this change your stance on Proposition 1?

If a candidate supports California’s Proposition 1, would you be more likely, or less likely to support them?

If California’s Proposition 1 omitted the right to have an abortion in the third trimester, would you be much more likely, somewhat more likely, somewhat less likely, or much less likely to support it?

Are California’s abortion laws more restrictive, less restrictive, or about the same as the rest of the country?

California currently allows late-term abortions.  Are California’s abortion laws extreme?
