Voters Don’t See Universally-liked SCOTUS Nominee as a Possibility
President Trump is expected to announce his nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy by Monday, but voters don’t anticipate his pick will please everyone.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 43% of Likely U.S. voters think it is at least somewhat possible for Trump to find a Supreme Court nominee that the majority of both Democrats and Republicans would support, including just 13% who think it is Very Possible. Most (53%) say it’s not possible, including 20% who say it’s Not At All Possible for Trump to nominate someone to the Supreme Court that both parties will approve of. The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on July 1-2, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
