73% Think Newcomers Should Adopt America's Culture, Language

Most voters still consider America an equitable place to live and feel strongly that newcomers to this country should adopt our way of life.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters believe American society is generally fair and decent. That’s down slightly from January's recent high of  60% but is generally in line with findings through last year. Prior to 2013, belief that American society was fair and decent ran regularly in the low-to-mid 60s. Thirty-one percent (31%) still say American society is generally unfair and discriminatory, but that's a near two-year low. Thirteen percent (13%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Fieldwork for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
