Arkansas Governor: Beebe (D) Still Tops 50% In Reelection Bid

Democratic incumbent Mike Beebe continues to earn more than 50% support in his bid for reelection as governor of Arkansas.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Beebe with 51% of the vote, while his Republican challenger Jim Keet picks up 41%, his best showing to date. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are still undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

But Beebe, who is seeking a second four-year term, led Keet by 20 points in August, 53% to 33%. A month earlier, however, it was a 50% to 40% race.

The latest numbers shift this race back to Leans Democratic from Solid Democratic in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.

Beebe's support has never fallen below 50% and has run as high as 57% in surveys since May. Keet, a business man and former state legislator, has earned 33% to 40% in that same period.

Beebe was first elected governor in 2006 with 55% of the vote. Now, 67% of Arkansas voters approve of the job he is doing as governor, while 32% disapprove.
