Most Voters Want to End Protection for Social Media Companies After Trump Facebook Ban
In the wake of Facebook’s decision to permanently ban former President Donald Trump from the platform, a majority of voters now favor ending legal protections for social media companies.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters believe operators of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are politically biased in the decisions they make. Twenty-six percent (26%) disagree and believe social media companies edit their content in a fair and balanced way. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 850 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on May 5-6, 2021 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
