Voters Show More Support for Troops On the Border
President Trump is sending troops to the southern border to stop thousands of Central Americans now in Mexico from entering the United States illegally. Voters tend to agree with the president's decision, but as is frequently the case on issues related to illegal immigration, there's a sharp difference of opinion between Democrats and Republicans.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters think the U.S. military should be used along the border with Mexico to prevent illegal immigration. Forty-two percent (42%) disagree. When Rasmussen Reports first asked this question in 2010, 67% favored using the military on the southern border, but support was down to 47% in April when another highly-publicized caravan of illegals was attempting to cross into the United States. The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on October 29-30, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
