For 49%, Veterans Day Is One of America's Most Important Holidays

Forty-nine percent (49%) of Americans consider Veterans Day to be one of the nation’s most important holidays, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Just three percent (3%) deem the holiday to honor those who have served in the U.S. military as one of our least important holidays. Forty-six percent (46%) rate it as somewhere in between.  (To see survey question wording, click here.)

These findings have been largely unchanged in five years of surveying on the question.  Last year, 51% rated the holiday as one of the most important.

Fifty-two percent (52%) of adults plan to celebrate Veterans Day today although it falls near the middle of the work week. Twenty-nine percent (29%) will not honor the day, while 18% aren't sure.
