Only 37% Think Marijuana Is Dangerous
Most Americans don’t believe marijuana use is dangerous, despite studies linking the drug to mental health problems.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 37% of American Adults believe marijuana use is dangerous – down from 42% last September – including just 13% who think it’s Very Dangerous. Fifty-five percent (55%) say marijuana is not dangerous, including 27% who consider it Not At All Dangerous. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,234 American Adults was conducted on September 8-10, 2026 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
