32% Favor ‘Sin Taxes’ On Soda, Junk Food
Numerous cities and states are looking for revenue these days short of raising property or income taxes, and “sin taxes” are a popular candidate, often in the name of better public health. But Americans still aren’t buying.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 32% of American Adults favor “sin taxes” on soda and junk foods. Fifty-nine percent (59%) are opposed to new taxes of this kind. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on March 27-28, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
