Economic Confidence Rises in Chicago

Chicagoland Chamber Survey Reports Improved Views of Personal Finance, Overall Economy

The economic confidence of consumers in Chicagoland rose during the third quarter of the year, according to the Rasmussen Consumer Index for the region released today by the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. The quarterly reading stood at 109.1 at the end of September, a near four-point gain from the 105.3 reported at the end of June.

The rise is attributable to improved views of personal finances and a less pessimistic view of the U.S. economy. In the survey of 1,000 consumers that Rasmussen conducted September 25-27, 42 percent rated their personal finances as good or excellent, up from 38 percent in June. At the opposite end of the spectrum, just 18 percent rate their finances as “poor” compared to the 22 percent who had that view in June.
