38% Give Obama Positive Marks for Deficit Reduction

Despite the partial government shutdown and the debt ceiling debate, voters give President Obama better marks for his handling of deficit reduction issues, but a plurality still rates his performance in this area as poor.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters give Obama good or excellent ratings for his handling of deficit reduction. That’s up six points from last month and ties the high reached early in the year. Forty-six percent (46%), though, still rate him poorly in this area, down from a high of 50%reached in July. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

34% Rate Obama Good or Excellent on Gun Control

Fewer voters than ever give President Obama positive ratings on gun control-related issues.

Just 34% of Likely U.S. Voters now rate the president’s handling of issues related to gun control as good or excellent, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. That’s down from a high of 45% in April. Forty-two percent (42%) give Obama poor marks for his performance in this area. Since the beginning of the year, his poor rating has ranged from a low of 34% to a high of 46%. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Voters Think Obama More Hostile to Small Businesses Than to Big Ones

Voters continue to think President Obama is more hostile to small business than he is to big business. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters feel Obama’s policies toward small businesses are too hostile. That's down from 51% a month ago which marked the first time that finding topped 50% but more in line with findings earlier this year.  Just three percent (3%) think his policies are too friendly toward small businesses. Thirty-nine percent (39%) say his policies in this area about right, up from a low of 35%. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

41% Give Obama Positive Marks for Health Care, 44% Say Poor

Despite continuing controversy and questions about the new national health care law as it nears fuller implementation, voter attitudes about President Obama's handling of the health care issue remain unchanged. Forty-one percent (41%) of Likely U.S. Voters give the president good or excellent marks when it comes to health care issues, while 44% rate his performance in this area as poor, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Obama's positives are up from June's low of 38% but consistent with regular surveying since February. Those giving the president poor marks have changed very little all year. 44% Say Obama is Very Liberal, 35% Say Same of Biden

Most voters have little doubt that President Obama and Vice President Biden are liberals.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% of Likely U.S. Voters consider the president at least somewhat liberal in political terms, the highest since the beginning of the year. This includes 44% who believe he is Very Liberal. Twenty-one percent (21%) feel the president is politically moderate. Just five percent (5%) consider Obama conservative, with two percent (2%) who say he is Very Conservative. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Economy, Health Care Are Still Most Important Voting Issues

The economy and health care remain at the top of the list of 15 important voting issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports. 

Seventy-five percent (75%) of Likely U.S. Voters consider the economy Very Important in terms of how they will vote in the next congressional election, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.  (To see survey question wording, click here.)

42% Give Obama Good, Excellent Ratings on National Security

As the United States reportedly prepares for a military strike against the Syrian government, voters' opinions of President Obama’s handling of national security is up slightly from recent lows.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 42% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the president is doing a good or excellent job on national security. That's up five points from 37% last week, the lowest level of support for the president’s handling of national security issues in nearly two-and-a-half years.  Thirty-six percent (36%) now rate Obama poorly on national security issues. 51% Think Obama's Policies Too Hostile To Small Businesses

Voters have consistently felt that President Obama is friendlier toward big businesses than small businesses, and they now believe so more than ever.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters think the president's policies toward small businesses are too hostile. This is the first time the number who says he is too hostile toward small businesses has topped 50%.  Just three percent (3%) think Obama's policies are too friendly toward small businesses. Thirty-five percent (35%) think they are about right, a new low, while 12% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Positive ratings for President Obama's handling of national security are at their lowest level in over two years of weekly tracking.

43% Say Obama Good or Excellent Leader, 42% Say Poor

Most voters continue to see President Obama as a liberal, and views of his leadership have returned from post-election highs to levels seen for much of his first term in office. 

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 43% of Likely U.S. Voters now rate the president as a good or excellent leader, unchanged from last month. Just as many, however, (42%) consider his leadership poor, up four from July. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

49% Think Obama Too Hostile Toward Small Business

Voters are more critical of President Obama’s policies toward small business and continue to believe he favors big business instead.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 49% of Likely U.S. Voters now think Obama’s policies are too hostile to small business. That's up from 46% in May.  By comparison, only 33% think the president's policies are too hostile to big business. 

Twenty-three percent (23%) think the president's policies are too friendly to big business, but just five percent (5%) feel that way about his policies toward small business. Thirty-seven percent (37%) feel Obama's small business policies are about right, down from a high of 43% in February, while 32% rate his big business policies as about right. 40% Rate Obama Poorly on National Security

President Obama now earns his most negative ratings on economic and national security issues in months.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 40% of Likely U.S. Voters now give the president poor marks for his handling of national security issues. The same number (40%) gives him good or excellent ratings in this area. 45% Give Obama Poor Marks on Health Care

President Obama’s health care reform law has been a point of contention among voters for much of his presidency, and they continue to give the president lukewarm marks for his handling of health care. 

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters rate Obama’s handling of health care issues as good or excellent, down from 44% in February and the lowest finding this year. President Obama continues to draw low marks for his handling of deficit reduction and economic fairness.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 34% of Likely U.S. Voters give Obama good or excellent ratings for his handling of deficit reduction, tying last month’s all-time low in that area.  Forty-five percent (45%) think he is handling deficit reduction issues poorly. 49% Think Obama Good or Excellent Leader

Despite the controversies surrounding the White House, half of U.S. voters continue to give President Obama positive marks for his leadership. Voters are more evenly divided on his leadership style. 

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 49% of Likely Voters consider Obama a good or excellent leader.  That shows little change from the past couple months but is down from a recent high of 55% measured in late December. However, 39% now give the president poor marks on his leadership, his worst showing since last October.  (To see survey question wording, click here.)
