Generic Congressional Ballot: Republicans 41%, Democrats 40%

It’s still a one-point race on the latest Generic Congressional Ballot.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending August 31 finds that 41% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Republican in their district’s congressional race if the election were held today, while 40% would choose the Democrat.

The national telephone survey of 3,500 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports from August 25-31, 2014. 23% Say U.S. Heading in Right Direction

Twenty-three percent (23%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending August 24.

This is down one point from the week before and marks the second time this month this finding has fallen to a level of confidence last seen during the temporary government shutdown in October. The number who say the country is heading in the right direction has been steadily falling since mid-June and has been less than 30% for most of this year.

Boehner Is Congress’ Least Liked Leader Again This Month

House Speaker John Boehner remains Congress’ most unpopular leader, but both parties’ bosses in the Senate continue to operate below the radar for many voters.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 28% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable opinion of Boehner, including four percent (4%) with a Very Favorable one. But 60% view the Ohio Republican unfavorably, with 32% who hold a Very Unfavorable opinion. Boehner’s overall unfavorables match the findings in June and again put him just ahead of House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi who held the title for years. 6% Think Congress Is Doing A Good or Excellent Job

As Congress heads off on a five-week recess, voters continue to express a very low opinion of the legislators they elect.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just six percent (6%) of Likely U.S. Voters think Congress is doing a good or excellent job, while 63% rate its performance as poor. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Generic Congressional Ballot: Republicans 42%, Democrats 38%

Republicans have jumped out to a four-point lead over Democrats on the latest Generic Congressional Ballot after trailing for most weeks this year.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending August 3 finds that 42% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Republican in their district’s congressional race if the election were held today, while 38% would choose the Democrat instead. It's the highest level of support for the GOP since late December.

24% Say U.S. Heading in Right Direction

Twenty-four percent (24%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending July 27.

This finding, down two points from last week, is the lowest since the beginning of November when the country was fresh off the temporary government shutdown and in the midst of the disastrous rollout of the national health care law. The number who say the country is heading in the right direction has been less than 30% 22 out of 30 weeks this year.

Belief U.S. Is Winning War on Terror Falls to 10-Year Low

Belief that America is winning the War on Terror and is safer than before the 9/11 terrorist attacks have fallen to their lowest levels in three years.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 35% of Likely U.S. Voters now believe the United States and its allies are winning the War on Terror. But that’s down from 39% in January and is the most pessimistic assessment since April 2011. Fifty percent (50%) felt America and its allies were winning a year ago. 

Twenty-seven percent (27%) say the terrorists are winning the War on Terror, down from a recent high of 30% in January. Just as many (28%) say neither side is winning. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Voters Trust GOP More on Economy, Immigration and Government Spending

Republicans continue to be trusted more by voters on the majority of issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports including major concerns like the economy, government spending and immigration.

The economy remains the most important issue to voters as the next elections approach. Republicans have a 44% to 39% lead in voter trust in that area. Since June 2009, the GOP has led in voter trust on the economy in all but one survey. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

For the second week in a row, 25% of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending July 13. 

That's the lowest finding since the beginning of December. The number who say the country is heading in the right direction has been less than 30% for 20 out of 28 weeks this year.

Democrats now hold a one-point lead over Republicans on the latest Generic Congressional Ballot.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending July 13 finds that 39% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Democrat in their district’s congressional race if the election were held today, while 38% would choose the Republican instead.

Democrats led by three - 41% to 38% - the week before and have been ahead for most weeks this year, with support ranging from 38% to 42%. Support for the GOP has ranged from 35% to 41% since January 1. Republicans led Democrats 39% to 38% a year ago.

New Low: 29% Think America’s Best Days Still Lie Ahead

Fewer voters than ever think the nation’s best days are still to come.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 29% of Likely U.S. Voters think America’s best days are in the future, down four points from 33% in April and the lowest finding in regular surveying for nearly eight years. More than half (52%) of voters believe the country’s best days are behind us, up from 48% in April. This ties October’s recent high and is one of the few times this figure has passed the 50% mark.  Eighteen percent (18%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here).
