28% Say U.S. Heading in Right Direction

Just 28% of U.S. voters say the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken the week ending Sunday, November 7.  This is the first reading following the midterm elections and the lowest finding since mid-August.

Despite the GOP takeover of the House, confidence that the country is moving in the right direction is down only slightly among Democrats at 54% and is basically unchanged among Republicans (8%) and voters not affiliated with either of the major parties (20%).

Overall confidence in the nation’s current course has been hovering around the 30% mark since last November except for a brief burst of enthusiasm, largely among Democratic voters, just after Congress' passage of the national health care bill in late March.

Sixty-seven percent (67%) of voters say the country is heading down the wrong track, up two points from last week, and also the highest finding since August. Following passage of the health care bill, this number dipped slightly but has since returned to levels found prior to the passage of the bill.
