Generic Congressional Ballot: Republicans 44%, Democrats 39%
For the second week in a row, Republicans hold a five-point lead over Democrats on the Generic Congressional Ballot for the week ending Sunday, November 21, 2010. This is the smallest gap between the two parties since the beginning of October.
New Rasmussen Reports polling finds that 44% of Likely Voters nationwide would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate, while 39% prefer the Democrat.
Republicans lead by 13 among men, but women are almost evenly divided. While 84% of Republican voters would vote within their party, 81% of Democrats would do the same. Republicans hold a 17-point lead among voters not affiliated with either major political party.
While the margin has varied somewhat from week-to-week, Republicans have been consistently ahead on the Generic Ballot since June of last year, and their lead has run as high as 12 points and as low as three points. When Barack Obama first took office as president, Democrats enjoyed a seven-point lead on the Generic Ballot.
