Consumer Spending Update: Consumer Confidence Continues to Climb

We hate to sound like a broken record, but the big consumer story this month is once again not about spending but about confidence in the economy and personal finances. Our findings in both areas are at or above the highest levels we've seen since this survey began in 2014.

Forty percent (40%) of consumers now have a positive view of the economy, an 11-point jump from this time last year. Just 22% rate the economy as poor. Thirty-five percent (35%) say the economy is only going to get better, up seven points from a year ago, while just 31% say it will get worse.

Forty-five percent (45%) now rate their personal finances as good or excellent, tying the highest sentiment in three years of surveying. Thirty-four percent (34%) say they will only get better from here.
