What America Thinks: The Summer Olympics Begin

The 2016 Summer Olympics officially kick off with tonight’s opening ceremony from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and most Americans are likely to be tuning in. 55% say they're likely to watch a large portion of the Summer Olympics coverage on television this year, with 26% who say they are Very Likely to do so. This is basically unchanged from the last summer Olympics in London in 2012. Before the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, however, 69% said they were likely to watch.

Regardless of whether they’re watching or not, most Americans say that when U.S. athletes excel in the Olympics, it makes them proud to be an American.
