What America Thinks: Are Democrats Ready to Unite?
Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders met privately on Tuesday, a meeting that could be critical to the future of the country but went largely unnoticed in the wake of the horrific weekend events in Orlando. A Clinton official said they discussed their common goal of defeating the Republicans in the general election. Could this signal the party unity many Democrats are hoping for?
Already by late May even as the primary battle between Clinton and Sanders reached a fever pitch, 76% of Likely Democratic Voters said it was likely their party would be unified after its national convention in July. Only 20% disagreed. Seventy-eight percent (78%) said Sanders was likely to endorse Clinton.
Unity and a Sanders endorsement may be coming sooner than even Democrats expected. Meanwhile, top Republican leaders continue to criticize their presumptive nominee Donald Trump on a regular basis.
