What America Thinks: Remembering the Reagans
Former First Lady Nancy Reagan will be laid to rest today at the Reagan Presidential Library in California alongside her husband Ronald Reagan. She is best remembered by many for her loyalty and devotion to the man Americans consider the most influential U.S. president in modern times. John F. Kennedy is a distant second.
Fifty-two percent (52%) of voters view it as a positive comparison to say a political candidate is like Reagan who served as president from 1981 to 1989. Just 29% say the same of comparing a candidate to President Obama, and even fewer feel that way about a comparison to George W. Bush. Fifty-four percent (54%) still agree with Reagan that “government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” But only 18% think the era of big government is over, even though it's been 27 years since Reagan left the White House.
