What America Thinks: The Oscars “Race”
This year's Academy Award nominations are being criticized by a number of prominent blacks for the lack of diversity among the nominees. But for most Americans, the Oscars just aren’t that big a deal. Only nine percent (9%) rate it as the prize they'd most like to win, well below the 45% who'd rather get a Nobel Prize or the 21% who'd opt for a Pulitzer Prize. Even among just black Americans, Oscars run a distant third.
Still, 61% of all Americans agree that this country has yet to reach the day Martin Luther King Jr. preached about when men and women of all races have equal opportunity. Yet only 25% believe most Americans are racist.
