What America Thinks: Consumer Spending Update
Dwindling confidence in personal finances has consumers holding on to their wallets a little tighter this month.
Rasmussen Reports’ findings on what Americans intend to buy have taken a hit across most areas, with the overall discretionary spending index bottoming out at 100.1, the lowest finding since September 2014. Plans for additional household expenses, home improvement, clothing purchases and entertainment have all hit 2015 lows this month.
Across the board, consumers say that they will be doing less spending compared to last month, and they don’t anticipate any more spending than usual in the month ahead. Women who traditionally manage household finances are more vehement than men in saying that they will be spending less in all these areas.
