What America Thinks 2014 Election Update - Week of 8/15/14

Thirty-six U.S. Senate seats are on the ballot this November. Twenty-one of them are held by Democrats and 15 by Republicans.

In Rasmussen Reports polling this week, the Iowa Senate race is still a dead heat, with Republican Joni Ernst and Democrat Bruce Braley each earning 43% support. Iowa is critical to GOP hopes of taking over the Senate and remains a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports 2014 Senate Balance of Power rankings.

In Kansas, incumbent Republican Senator Pat Roberts - after winning a bruising primary - has just a four-point lead – 44% to 40% - over Democratic challenger Chad Taylor. Republicans can't afford to lose Kansas which now moves from Safe Republican to a Toss-Up in our Balance of Power rankings.

In the Kansas governor’s race, Republican Governor Sam Brownback trails Democratic challenger Paul Davis by 10 points. This race is now rated Safe Democrat. The Republican candidate hold strong leads in both the senate and governor’s races in Tennessee.

At week’s end, the Rasmussen Senate Balance of Power Rankings show 13 races Safe Republican and six Safe Democrat. Three lean Republican, while one leans Democrat. Six races are Toss-Ups. Republicans need a net gain of six seats to take control of the Senate.

For Rasmussen Reports, I’m Alex Boyer. Remember, if it’s in the news, it’s in our polls.
