* How closely have you followed recent news reports about the U.S. Senate?

* Suppose the president nominates someone to serve as a judge or in a government position who is legally and professionally qualified for the job. Is it fair for a U.S. senator to oppose that nominee because of disagreements over ideology or judicial philosophy?

* Should every presidential nominee receive an up or down vote on the floor of the Senate?

* In the Senate, a filibuster can prevent a vote from taking place unless 60 senators agree. Some Democrats want to change the Senate rules so that a vote must be held whenever a majority of senators agree. That would eliminate the filibuster. Do you favor or oppose the plan to change the rules and eliminate the filibuster?

* Is it more important for government to operate efficiently or more important to preserve our constitutional system of checks and balances?
