Election 2008: Maine Senate
Maine Senate: Collins 57% Allen 41%
Sunday, November 02, 2008
In the final days of Election 2008, Republican Senator Susan Collins has expanded her double-digit lead over Democratic challenger Tom Allen in Maine. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows Collins leading by sixteen points, 57% to 41%. A month ago, she led by ten. This is the fourth straight survey to show Collins with more than 50% support from the state’s voters. In eight surveys conducted this year, she has never received less than 49% of the vote and her lead has never been smaller than seven points. Collins is viewed favorably by 69% of voters statewide, Allen by 51%. The Republican incumbent, seeking her third term in office, leads among men and women, young and old, married and single voters. She trails among Democrats and liberals (see crosstabs). While Collins is doing well in Maine, the same cannot be said for the Republican Presidential ticket as Barack Obama holds a solid lead over John McCain. Many of Collins’ Republican colleagues in the Senate are also struggling. Republican Senate seats are at risk in Alaska, New Hampshire, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, Mississippi, Minnesota, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
