West Virginia Senate: Rockefeller Cruising Towards Re-Election

Senator Jay Rockefeller (D) of West Virginia doesn’t have to worry about losing his bid for re-election in November. The first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the Senate race in the state finds him leading challenger Jay Wolfe 61% to 33%.

Before entering the Senate in 1985, Rockefeller served two terms as West Virginia’s Governor. He is currently chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence in the Senate. Wolfe is a former state Senator and 2002 candidate.

The incumbent dominates his opponent among unaffiliated voters, 52% to 34%. Rockefeller leads 59% to 37% among men and 63% to 30% among women.

Rockefeller is viewed favorably by 64% of voters and unfavorably by 33%. Wolfe’s ratings are 46% favorable, 35% favorable, and 19% have no opinion.
