Fifty-six percent (56%) of Americans view Thanksgiving as one of the nation's most important holidays. That's up three points from a year ago.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey finds that just four percent (4%) think it's one of the country's least important holidays, while 40% say it's somewhere in between.

Women are slightly more likely than men to say Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays. Sixty percent (60%) of married Americans say it's one of the most important holidays, compared to 50% of unmarrieds.

Maybe in part that's because 85% of adults plan to have Thanksgiving dinner at a relative's house or in their own home.

Other than eating, football continues to be a popular Thanksgiving pastime. Half of adults (50%) say they'll watch a football game, up three percentage points from last year. Forty-three percent (43%) don't intend to watch the sport that day.

More men (55%) will watch a football game than women (45%).

Only four percent (4%) of all adults plan to attend a Thanksgiving Day parade, down four points from 2008.

Ten percent (10%) of Americans say they have to work on Thanksgiving Day. Adults under 40 are much more likely to work on the holiday than their elders.

Still, 53% are more thankful this Thanksgiving than they were last year at this time.
