53% More Thankful This Thanksgiving

Fifty-three percent (53%) of Americans say they are more thankful this Thanksgiving than they were last year at this time. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 11% are less thankful, while 35% are about as thankful this year as they were last year. In 2008, 86% said they had a lot to be thankful for at Thanksgiving. Just seven percent (7%) did not. The plurality (41%) of adults say their religious faith is what they are most thankful for after family and health. (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook. Women (55%) are slightly more thankful than men (50%) this year. African-Americans (77%) are significantly more thankful than whites (46%). Married adults (56%) and adults with children at home (59%) are more thankful this year than non-married adults (47%) and adults without children living with them (47%). Adults over age 40 are more thankful for their religion than those who are younger. As for other things Americans are grateful for this Thanksgiving, 19% list their job, 15% their country and six percent (6%) their community. Fourteen percent (14%) say they’re thankful for something else. Only nine percent (9%) of adults plan to spend more on this year's Thanksgiving dinner than they did a year ago. Forty-two percent (42%) say they’ll spend less, and 47% expect their spending to be about the same. Fifty-two percent (52%) of married Americans expect to spend about the same amount on this year's Thanksgiving dinner as last year's, while the plurality (49%) of unmarrieds say they will spend less.
