Election 2024: Being ‘In the Room’ During Vote-Counting Matters

Most voters don’t think the Republican Party has been effective at winning elections, and agree with the new RNC chairman’s emphasis on having election observers in polling places.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 41% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the Democratic Party is more effective at winning elections, compared to just 17% who think Republicans are more effective. Thirty-three percent (33%) say7 both parties are about equally effective at winning elections and 10% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

After becoming chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Whatley said last week: “You've got to have observers and attorneys in the room when the votes are being cast, and when the votes are being counted.”

Seventy-five percent (75%) of voters believe it is important for parties to have observers in polling places to make sure election results are fair and accurate, including 55% who say it’s Very Important. Twenty-one percent (21%) don’t think election observers are important.
