Midterms 2026: It’s Still ‘the Economy, Stupid’

Nearly half of voters expect the economy to be the most important factor in this November’s midterm congressional elections, with immigration and health care the only other significant issues.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Midterm Voters say the economy will be the most important issue in determining their vote in the midterms. Seventeen percent (17%) see immigration as the top issue and 11% view health care as most important in November. Every other issue registers in single digits – national security (9%), education (4%), taxes (3%), climate change (2%) and energy policy (1%) – while four percent (4%) say some other issue matters most in determining their vote this fall.
