1* The U.S. Constitution designates the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., as a federal district and not a state. Should Washington, D.C. be a state?

2* Washington, D.C.’s representative in the U.S. House of Representatives is not allowed to vote because the District is not a state. Should Congress let Washington, D.C.’s representative vote?

3*  Because of Washington, D.C.’s unique constitutional status, Congress has the right to review and overturn laws and budgets approved by the city council. Should Congress vote to end its oversight of the District government?

4* Some people have suggested that Congress give the residential areas of Washington, D.C. back to Maryland so they can be represented by legislators from that state. Which is the best approach – to make the residential areas of Washington a new state, to give the residential areas back to Maryland or to keep things the way they are now?

5* Generally speaking, is it good or bad for most residents of Washington, D.C. that the federal government is based there? Or does it have no impact on them?
