Celebrity Campaign Endorsements Don’t Mean Much to Voters

Despite President Trump campaigning for Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, Moore still lost the election to his Democratic opponent. Most voters say celebrity or politician endorsements of candidates in local elections aren’t important to their vote, however, that number has doubled over the last three years.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 26% of Likely U.S. Voters say it’s even somewhat important to their vote when celebrities or politicians from outside their state campaign on behalf of a local candidate. Most (70%) say such campaigning is not important to their vote. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted on December 12-13, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
