What America Thinks: Let’s Go to the Movies
The way Americans watch movies is rapidly changing, but that doesn’t mean they never go to a traditional movie theater.
Most Americans watch movies fairly regularly, with nearly three-out-of-10 saying they watch two or more per week. Thanks to ever-growing advances like OnDemand and streaming services, they don’t even have to leave the comfort of their own home. As a matter of fact, television and streaming may even outpace DVDs and Blu-Rays since more say they watch movies at home through streaming and OnDemand services or on premium and network cable.
But that may change briefly with the long-awaited Star Wars sequel, “The Force Awakens,” hitting theaters. Forty-three percent (43%) say they’re likely to go see the film in theaters, and with its already record-breaking ticket sales, it’s sure to be this year’s Christmas blockbuster.
