What America Thinks: God Bless Christmas
Christmas may be the commercial extravaganza of the year, but for most Americans it’s still the day that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. The vast majority recognizes Christmas, and most of them honor it as a religious holiday. Seventy-one percent (71%) say the holiday is more about Jesus than Santa Claus. Just 14% put Santa first.
Fifty percent (50%) of Americans said they planned to attend a religious service during the last Christmas holiday season, and 70% believe in the central Christian tenet that Jesus Christ is the son of God sent to Earth to die for their sins. Not surprisingly, most Americans also want signs in stores to read “Merry Christmas” rather than “Happy Holidays” during this sacred time of the year.
