2* In 2009, private investors refused to invest more money in Solyndra but the government wanted to support an alternative energy company. The federal government then provided Solyndra with a $535 million loan guarantee. Was it a good idea for the government to provide loan guarantees for Solyndra?
3* Is it appropriate for the government to invest in private companies?
4* Is it unusual for government officials to help selected companies like Solyndra or do government officials routinely use taxpayer money to help favored companies?
5* Generally speaking, will an industry like the solar power industry be better off for the long run if it is developed by the private sector and investors or if it is developed with the help of government subsidies and loan guarantees?
