Democratic Senator Zell Miller gave a Keynote Address at the Republican National Convention that many reporters instantly branded as bad news for the Republican Party and George W. Bush. However, a Rasmussen Reports survey finds that voter perceptions of Miller are sharply divided along partisan lines. Kerry supporters share the initial media reaction and most (55%) have an unfavorable opinion of him. Just 4% of Kerry supporters have a favorable opinion of the Southern Democrat. Bush supporters offer a mirror image assessment of the Keynote Speaker--51% favorable and 8% unfavorable. It seems possible that the speech energized Bush supporters as much as it enraged Bush opponents. Selected demographics are available for Premium Members. Overall, 25% of Likely Voters have a favorable opinion of Miller while 32% have an unfavorable opinion. These numbers are not even close to ratings earned by other GOP Convention Speakers such as Laura Bush or Rudy Giuliani. However, they are a bit better than the man Republicans love to hate--Michael Moore. Favorability ratings for Bush and Kerry are updated weekly through Election Day on RasmussenReports.com. Premium Members receive daily updates on these ratings, state polling data, and supplemental information. The Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 Likely Voters conducted September 4 found that 19% have a favorable opinion of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. Twenty-five percent (25%) have an unfavorable opinion. For House Speaker Dennis Hastert, the numbers are even--19% favorable and 19% unfavorable. Tom Delay is viewed favorably by 18% and unfavorably by 26%. The numbers for Republican Congressional Leaders are generally comparable to the numbers for Democratic Congressional Leaders. Fourteen percent (14%) have a favorable opinion of Senior White House Advisor Karl Rove. Rove is viewed unfavorably by 26%. The Republican National Convention focused heavily on America's role in the world. An earlier Rasmussen Reports survey found that just 21% view the United Nations as our ally while 16% believe the UN is an enemy of the U.S. Assessments of France are even bleaker.
