Once again, Rasmussen Reports tracking polls show that voters trust Democrats more than Republicans on ten key issues. The latest Rasmussen Reports update on five of these issues show little change over the past month. Republicans picked up a little ground on the tax issue, Democrats still retain a four-point advantage on that topic. Forty-four percent (44%) of voters now trust the Democrats more on tax issues while 40% have a preference for the GOP. A month ago, the Democrats had a five-point advantage on taxes. On three other issues updated this past week—Health Care, Social Security, and Education—there were modest two point swings but Democrats retain a very wide advantage. The Democrats are preferred by 25 percentage points on Health Care, by 18 percentage points on Social Security, and by 13 percentage points on Education. There was no change in preference on the issue of abortion. Forty-five percent (45%) of voters trust Democrats more on the issue of abortion while 38% trust Republicans more. A separate survey found that Democrats have a 12-point advantage on the Generic Congressional Ballot. Nineteen percent (19%) of voters say that Congress is doing a good or an excellent job. Health Care and Social Security are the issues where Democrats enjoy the biggest advantage. Taxes and immigration are the best Republican issues. Rasmussen Reports updates these tracking polls in separate banks of five issues at a time. In our previous update, Democrats gained modest ground on four of the five issues. However, there was one major exception to the trend and the Republicans gained ground on immigration. Some Republicans have been seen as taking the lead on trying to defeat an immigration bill that is far more popular in Congress than among the general public. While Republicans gained ground on immigration, Democrats gained a net two points on the economy, four points on national security, four points on the War in Iraq, and five points on Government Ethics and Corruption. Rasmussen Reports regularly tracks public attitudes towards Congress, the War on Terror, and other topics. Rasmussen Reports also continuously updates favorability ratings and general election match-ups for all Democratic and Republican Presidential candidates along with ratings for Members of Congress, Other Political Figures, and Journalists.
