Issues 2006: No longer all about Iraq

When asked about some issues that may impact Election 2006, 75% of Americans rate Health Care as "very important." Seventy-four percent (74%) say the same about the Economy and Political Corruption. The Rasmussen Reports survey found that just 60% consider Iraq "very important" in terms of how they will vote. Immigration is "very important" to 43% of Americans. State surveys have found significant regional variation on the importance of immigration. Related survey data shows that a majority of voters consider the economy more important than Iraq at this time. This data is consistent with changes observed in President Bush's Job Approval Ratings. During 2005, his ratings declined most sharply following the March and August spikes in gasoline prices. Over the course of Election 2006, Rasmussen Reports will measure the perceived importance of many issues and track changes as the campaign wears on.
