The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of New Mexico voters found Democrat Tom Udall ahead of both his Republican opponents in the race for the United States Senate. Udall leads Steve Pearce 50% to 42% and Heather Wilson 50% to 43%.

Udall’s lead, if he can hold it and win in November, represents a potential party gain for Democrats in the United States Senate. The open seat is currently held by Republican Senator Domenici, who is retiring.

Against Wilson, Udall fares stronger with men versus women. Udall is ahead 52% to 42% among male voters and 49% to 44% among female voters.

Udall fares best among liberal voters in both match-ups. Against Pearce, Udall earns support from 82% of liberal voters and against Wilson he draws in 78% of the voters.

Udall is viewed favorably by 59% and unfavorably by 31%. Wilson’s numbers are 47% favorably and 47% unfavorable. Pearce is the least known candidate, with 48% who view him favorably, 39% who view him unfavorably and 13% who are not sure.
