Michigan Senate: Landslide Levin

The U.S. Senate race in Michigan has changed little over the past month. Democratic Senator Carl Levin continues to enjoy a big lead over State Representative Jack Hoogendyk, 56% to 36%. Last month, Levin led by eighteen points. The month before, he had a twenty point advantage. When leaners are included, Levin leads 57% to 39%. Levin is viewed favorably by 61% and unfavorably by 34%. Those figures are unchanged from a month ago. Hoogendyk’s numbers are 40% favorable and 31% unfavorable, while 29% have no opinion. Levin has served in the United States Senate for the past thirty years. He has won each of his last three re-election bids with 58% to 60% of the vote. He has not faced a serious election threat since 1984. Levin is currently serving as Chairman of the Senate’s Committee on Armed Services. In recent national elections, Michigan tends to lean Democratic and Barack Obama currently has the lead over John McCain. This month, Levin is backed by 92% of Michigan Democrats while Hoogendyk has support from comes from 83% of Republicans. Among unaffiliated voters, Levin leads by ten.
